E-commerce……..An industry looking for a way out !

I CAN BOLDY SAY FOR ONCE THAT I’M A PROUD NIGERIAN.YOU KNOW WHY? FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS OR SO, WE HAVE WITNESSED A RAPID GROWTH IN OUR TECH ECOSYSTEM WHICH YOU CAN SAY IS AT PAR WITH SOME TECH- DRIVEN COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD.DUE TO THIS RAPID GROWTH AND BRIGHT PROSPECT IN THESE COMPANIES,FOREIGN VENTURE CAPITAL FIRMS HAVE RUSHED IN AND INFUSED MILLIONS OF CAPITAL INTO SOME OF OUR TOP INTERNET START-UP’S. 

I MUST COMMEND THE BRILLIANT MINDS THAT ORCHESTRATED THIS SUDDEN CHANGE.BUT THERE IS THIS PARTICULAR INDUSTRY THAT IS THRIVING BUT HAS ONE ARCHILES HEEL KILLING IT,THIS INDUSTRY IS OUR E-COMMERCE SITES.THEY HAVEN’T QUITE FIGURED IT OUT YET,I AM SORRY FOR THE CALL OUT IF IT HITS YOU BELOW THE BELT.

NIGERIA’S E-COMMERCE INDUSTRY IS SO SATURATED THAT I WON’T BE PLEASED TO READ ANYMORE ARTICLE ABOUT A NEW ONE SURFACING , UNLESS THIS NEW COMPANY IS READY TO SOLVE THE MAIN ISSUE THAT IS KILLING ALL E-COMMERCE SITES AROUND THE WORLD.THIS PROBLEM IS PROFITABILITY WHICH NO ONE IS READY TO ADMIT.NIGERIA, RIGHT NOW HAS CLOSE TO THIRTY E-COMMERCE SITES,WHICH IS SERIOUSLY ALARMING.PROFITABILITY ISSUE IS THE SAME PROBLEM ALL THE BIG BOYS IN THE E-COMMERCE BUSINESS ARE FACING EVERYWHERE SINCE THEIR INCEPTION.SO IF I’M TO COME IN, I WILL THINK OF  AN INNOVATIVE SOLUTION TO TACKLE THIS LINGERING PROBLEM BEFORE ESTABLISHING ONE,WHICH WOULD EVENTUALLY BOOST MY COMPANY’S BOTTOM LINE AND POLISH MY CREDIBILITY AMONG MY PEERS AS AN INNOVATOR.

QUITE FRANKLY IF  A COMPANY IS NOT IN BUSINESS TO MAKE PROFIT,THEN WHAT FOR?PROFIT IS EVERYTHING FOR THE SUSTAINANCE OF ANY BUSINESS.THE GREAT AMAZON.COM, WHICH HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE FOR ALMOST 2 DECADES MADE A DIMINUTIVE NET INCOME OF 100 MILLION DOLLAR LAST YEAR COMPARED TO ITS HUMONGOUS 17.2 BILLION DOLLAR GROSS REVENUE. E-COMMERCE BUSINESS REQUIRES A HIGHER OPERATING CAPITAL WHICH ALWAYS HAS A RIPPLE EFFECT ON THEIR OPERATING INCOME.

LOGISTICS AND THEIR MARKETING STRATEGY ARE THEIR TOP TWO BALANCE SHEET KILLERS AND THE THIRD ONE IS THE ENORMOUS COMPETITION IN THEIR INDUSTRY.EVERYBODY WANTS TO DO FREE SHIPPING WHICH IS ALSO A KILLER OF A COMPANY’S BALANCE SHEET.I VEHEMENTLY BELIEVE THERE ARE MULTIPLE SOLUTIONS TO ALL PROBLEMS IF THEY ARE WELL THOUGHT OUT AND TAKEN SERIOUSLY,WHICH I’M VERY SURE YOU PEOPLE ARE MORE THAN CAPABLE TO CARRY OUT.AND PLEASE DON’T THINK BECAUSE AMAZON HASN’T FIGURED IT OUT YET ,YOU CAN’T DO IT .YOU’VE GOT TO BELIEVE YOU CAN DO IT,YOUR TIME IS NOW..GET IN THE RING AND FIGHT THIS PROBLEM AND KNOCK IT OUT. WE ALL BELIEVE YOU CAN DO IT.

Ambition

What is this raging fire
And anguish that consumes the heart?
Why is it so strong
As to rip mind to pieces
And temper heart into sweet complacency?

My passion lights my blood ablaze
And inspires me to travel
To the edge of the earth for answers.
The most complex and unforgiving problems
Seduce my mind,
Clutch at my very soul, and tear out my heart.

Why does my ambition plague me so?
Why does this endless restlessness
Grip me so harshly?
Why must my emotions entrench themselves in such
Cruel whimsy,
Swerving like the raging water in a river?

Shall I sit in this agony as
it Stains my soul?
Shall I lie as this torrent glimpses my weakness
Lulls my defense,
And, as a phoenix bursts to flame, takes the flesh to ashes and I along with?
It is man’s most insolent beast, that which craves and aspires.
And there are none to comprehend the depth of nature to desire.

THE TRUTH HURTS, WHY SHOULD'NT IT............

As the giant called Nigeria has somehow found its way to be the number 1 economy in Africa(by GDP standards)  there is need for this giant to be constantly kept on it toes by some hard hitting constructive criticism, for no giant truly grows without deep running words of a person who expresses his opinions unapologetically about the good,bad and ugly of the status quo. The part of this beloved giant that would receive the whooping from our "Tech Whip"(for now) is it's up and coming tech sector,largely because of:

• the non-aggressiveness of its participants
• Over patronizing and excessive accolades on account of meager achievements
• excessive copying and pasting with no ounce of innovation added
• and last but not least lack of heart felt truth

As the good lord said "you shall receive the truth and it shall set you free", ladies and gentlemen freedom is what we offer you but at the price of heart felt truth, We come to you as a herald of veracity and our mandate is not to give a f**k if our uprightness offends you.We don't stutter, don't play and will look you straight in the eye and tell you what you need to hear without blinking all we ask is that you are wise enough to pick points from our constructive criticism.Our tech sector is growing but the entrepreneurs pioneering this growth "dey fall my hand seriously".Someone very important asked why i we have decided to take drugs on account of anothers illness?  my reply was simple that we have been privileged to think differently from the pack and this privilege is what we intend to share with the majority.I end this introduction in the words of the twitter bio of@etcho3 "Innovate or move over"
